Jonathan Kuminga Skillfully Dodges Injury Scare After Jamming Finger on Backboard – NBC Sports Bay Area & California

SAN FRANCISCO – The Golden State Warriors breathed a sigh of relief on Monday as one of their talented young players, Jonathan Kuminga, dodged a potential injury scare. During Tuesday’s practice, Kuminga was spotted with heavy tape wrapped around his right thumb and wrist, opting not to use his right shooting hand during a 3-on-3 session with players and coaches.

However, Warriors coach Steve Kerr quickly reassured everyone that the situation was not a cause for concern. Kuminga had jammed his thumb on the backboard while either attempting a rebound or a shot block, leading him to sit out the contact portion of Tuesday’s practice. Kerr revealed that Kuminga initially didn’t feel any discomfort due to the adrenaline, but the soreness set in overnight. Nevertheless, Kerr emphasized that the injury was not serious and expects Kuminga to bounce back quickly.

Kuminga’s third professional season is anticipated to be a significant leap in his career, and he demonstrated that potential during Saturday night’s preseason opener. The 21-year-old forward showcased his skills by scoring an impressive 24 points on 8-of-14 shooting. Additionally, he notched four assists, shooting 4 of 8 from beyond the arc and 4 of 5 at the free-throw line. Kuminga’s emphasis on rebounding development was evident as he led both teams with eight rebounds, all on the defensive end.

Veteran point guard Chris Paul also sat out the contact portion of Tuesday’s practice as a precautionary measure for rest. Paul, who played 13 minutes in the Warriors’ previous game, made a solid debut with six points, five assists, and four rebounds. Kerr mentioned that Paul had an excellent workout before taking the rest of the day off.

After consecutive intense days of practice and scrimmages, the Warriors plan to have a lighter session on Wednesday. Kerr anticipates no limitations for both Kuminga and Paul and expects them to play in the team’s upcoming preseason game against the Lakers at Crypto.com Arena on Friday night.
