MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones left Sunday’s 31-16 loss to the Miami Dolphins in the fourth quarter with a neck injury.
Jones sustained the injury when he was blindsided by Andrew Van Ginkel during a sack. He was escorted off the field by trainers and subsequently examined in the medical tent before being taken to the locker room.
The team announced Jones’ absence within minutes and Tyrod Taylor stepped in as his replacement.
Given the number of hits Jones had been enduring, it seemed inevitable. This was Jones’ sixth sack of the game, bringing his season total to 28 sacks in just five games.
The Dolphins game was another tough outing for Jones, who faced consistent pressure and completed 14-of-20 passes for 119 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions.
This isn’t the first time Jones has dealt with a neck injury. In the previous season, he missed the final six games due to a neck injury and later underwent a procedure during the offseason.
The Giants made a significant financial commitment to Jones, signing him to a four-year, $160 million contract to be their franchise quarterback.
