Week 6 College Football Grades

The grades for Week 6 of the college football season are in. However, this installment will not mention anything about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. Similar to last season, only exceptional performances will receive high marks, and failing grades will not be reversed. In the previous week, UCF’s attempt at backyard football earned high marks, while ESPN’s “College GameDay” received a failing grade for lacking interesting football analysis.

Miami Fumbles Away Victory

Miami learned a valuable lesson from defensive coordinators: never allow a receiver to get behind you, especially when the game is on the line. Unfortunately, the players did not listen in their home game against Georgia Tech. With just 10 seconds left and trailing by 3, Georgia Tech’s quarterback found an open receiver who easily scored the game-winning touchdown. This costly mistake by Miami came after a fumble, one of their four turnovers in the game. Miami’s coach, Mario Cristobal, admitted that they should have taken a knee, but also expressed his frustration. The loss tarnished Miami’s previous victory and now their championship hopes hang in the balance with tough matchups against North Carolina and Clemson on the horizon.

Jimbo Fisher Faces Criticism

Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher has yet to prove his worth despite his massive salary of $95 million. While the team lost to Alabama in a compelling match, it was the incident outside the stadium that garnered attention. A picture of a person being loaded into a police van circulated on social media. The humorous comments poking fun at Fisher and offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino added excitement to the situation. Trollin’ is widely accepted and this incident was no exception.

Florida Player’s Lack of Effort

College football players are admired for their passion and dedication to the game, but occasionally a player’s lack of effort is shocking and inexcusable. In the Florida-Vanderbilt game, a Florida cornerback failed to make a tackle, allowing an 85-yard touchdown. The player simply gave up on the play while his teammates made an effort to catch up to the opponent. Fortunately for the player, his lack of effort did not cost his team the game as they secured a decisive win.

The Best and Worst Moments

• A hilarious false start penalty was called on all offensive linemen except the center.
• Matt Leinart and Big Noon Kickoff showed support for Washington State, delivering a message to Pat McAfee and College GameDay.
• A referee caught an interception and turned into an “office linebacker” during the play.
• Iowa and Oklahoma have only allowed one rushing touchdown all season, the fewest in the nation.
• Notre Dame’s 30-game winning streak against ACC opponents was snapped by Louisville.
• USC trailed for the first time this season, ending their streak of not trailing in a game.
• Missouri’s Brady Cook had 366 consecutive passes without an interception, the longest streak in SEC history.
• Oklahoma earned their 940th all-time win, while Texas has 941.
• Ole Miss was fined $175,000 by the SEC for fan misconduct.

The Dog of the Week

The matchup between Bowling Green and Miami (Ohio) featured a heartwarming moment. However, the game itself was a disappointment. Bowling Green failed to provide any excitement, recording only 135 total yards, possessing the ball for just over 20 minutes, and never crossing the midfield. Miami’s shutout victory was their first in 16 years. Despite the lackluster game, the pups on the field still received hugs from the Bowling Green faithful, as they were the only FBS team to not score a point that week.
