SEATTLE — Ji’Ayir Brown made his first NFL start with the 49ers’ 31-13 win against the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday at Lumen Field, capping off the game with an outstanding performance.

The San Francisco defense held Geno Smith and the Seattle offense to just six points, and for Brown, the victory was an invaluable learning experience.

“Amazing, man,” Brown said after the game. “The communication between the guys on the field, the energy we brought, the passion we played with. It’s incredible. We didn’t let them in the end zone either, so for that to be my first start, and that kind of accomplishment, that means a lot.”

Given Brown’s talent and maturity, the 49ers were not surprised by his impressive performance. After being drafted in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, Brown has steadily made an impact on the field. Prior to Week 11, he had only played 30 total defensive snaps and was mostly involved in special teams.

Brown didn’t hesitate to step in for All-Pro safety Talanoa Hufanga, who suffered a season-ending ACL tear midway through the previous game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Brown showcased his abilities during his first start, recording four tackles, three pass breakups, and an interception.

Playing alongside veteran safety Tashaun Gipson provided crucial support for the rookie in his new role.

Additionally, the speed of the 49ers’ pass rush greatly assisted Brown in his first start, making his job as a defensive back significantly easier.

After the game, Brown expressed his excitement and the impact of playing alongside established players. He finished the night with four tackles, showing his determination to continue improving as the season progresses.
