WASHINGTON, D.C. – Jesus Pinedo just had an unforgettable Friday night.
The Peruvian fighter clinched the 2023 PFL featherweight championship, bagged the $1 million prize, and avenged his previous loss to Gabriel Braga at 2023 PFL Championship. And there’s more – Pinedo (23-6-1) is all set for a champion vs. champion bout against Bellator titleholder Patricio Freire in early 2024.
It was a monumental night for Pinedo’s career.
“I feel extremely happy to have realized this dream because this was all just a dream,” Pinedo told MMA Junkie through an interpreter. “I’m now a world champion, and I always knew that this would become a reality at some point. We did it. We did it thanks to my team. Thanks to my family who never abandoned me. It was a tough process, but it was all worth it.”
Regarding the fight against ‘Pitbull’, the biggest name he’s faced so far, Pinedo remains unfazed.
“He’s a tough rival, just like everyone I’ve fought,” Pinedo said. “It’s just another fight for me, and I’m ready. I know that I will finish that fight. It won’t reach a decision, just like all the other fights I’ve been in.”
