Nov. 22—Mikey Maloney from Riverside High School received the coveted Tony Fisher Award for the second year in a row, making him the Player of the Year. This outstanding dual-threat quarterback put up impressive numbers, throwing for 2,151 yards and 17 touchdowns, while also rushing for 1,077 yards and 20 touchdowns. In addition, he excelled as a defensive back and punter, securing a spot as one of the few game-changers in Northeast Ohio.
Coach Bob Gecewich of Perry was recognized as the Coach of the Year with the Bob Ritley Award. Leading his team to a perfect 14-0 record and into the state final four round, Gecewich’s impressive coaching skills has dominated the playing field and ended Kirtland’s reguar-season win streak that dated back to 2016.
Additionally, the First Team Offense and Defense – highlighting some of the top players – have been announced. Notable players are Scotty Fox from Mentor, Sean Patrick from Kenston, Will Bates from Kirtland, Dom Kirks from Riverside, and many others. These individuals have exhibited excellence and skill in their respective positions throughout the season, leaving a lasting impression on the field.
