2022 Aussie PGA: Cameron Smith (78) fails to make cut while Min Woo Lee leads Adam Scott

In Brisbane, Australia, Cam Smith had a rough go of it during his Australian PGA Championship title defense. He finished 21 shots off the pace after slumping to 9 over in the second round, ultimately missing the cut.

Meanwhile, Min Woo Lee took the lead at 12 under at the halfway point after a solid 5-under 66, with Adam Scott close behind at 11 under after shooting 65 in the second round.

Despite being a hometown favorite, Smith struggled in the second round, finishing 9 over and missing the cut by nine strokes. He expressed his disappointment, stating that he couldn’t remember playing a worse round as a professional.

Further down the leaderboard, John Lyras was third at 10 under, and Australians Lucas Herbert and Curtis Luck shared fourth place at 8 under. Luck’s ace on the 17th helped propel him to a second-round 67, while Joel Moscatel of Spain, who was the overnight leader, had 71 on Friday.

Rikuya Hoshino of Japan was among the three players at 7 under, in a tournament being played at the Royal Queensland Golf Club, the proposed golf venue for the 2032 Olympics in Brisbane.

Smith struggled with his game, particularly with his putts, driver, and irons, ultimately falling short of the mark in this tournament. He’s now looking to turn things around as he prepares to play in the Australian Open in Sydney next week.
