The Texas Rangers have emerged as champions of the baseball world. After a five-game battle against the Arizona Diamondbacks, they secured their first-ever World Series title. Moreover, their manager has achieved a historic feat of his own.
Bruce Bochy, who came out of retirement to helm the Rangers in the 2023 season, has now earned his fourth World Series ring and led three different teams to the Fall Classic.
Despite this remarkable journey, the 2016 Chicago Cubs hold a captivating place in Bochy’s story.
Over the past 20 seasons, Bochy’s teams have competed in a total of 16 playoff rounds. They have emerged victorious in 15 of those, claiming World Series championships in 2010, 2012, 2014, and now in 2023.
However, there is one blemish in Bochy’s record—the 2016 National League Division Series loss to the Cubs, who ultimately went on to win the World Series that year.
Nevertheless, Bochy’s status in the annals of baseball history is secure. He joins an elite group of only five managers to have won World Series titles with multiple clubs. Additionally, his 16 series victories in postseason play rank second all-time, trailing only Joe Torre’s 19.
Furthermore, Bochy becomes the first manager ever to claim League Championship Series wins with three different teams, as reported by MLB.com’s Sarah Langs.
