$100,000 fundraiser to renovate Riverside Park tennis courts kicks off

Oct. 21—GRAND FORKS — Help us raise funds for the revitalization of the Terry Paukert Tennis Complex at Riverside Park! Our exciting campaign commenced last week during the state boys’ tennis tournament. Our ambitious target is to gather $100,000 for court renovations, the installation of bleachers and restrooms, and enhancing the court entrance.

In honor of Terry Paukert, a revered figure in Grand Forks’ tennis community, the courts have been renamed. Paukert, who has made significant contributions including winning the prestigious United States Tennis Association C. Burton Junior Development Award, also coaches young athletes at Riverside Park every summer.

The project was initiated by Marc Nielsen and Tom Spicer, who approached the Grand Forks Park District earlier this year. The goal is to honor Paukert’s remarkable generosity to the community through fundraising and court improvements.

“His impact extends far beyond athletics,” noted Nielsen. “We believe he deserves recognition for his exceptional contributions.”

Nielsen emphasized the primary objective of enhancing the courts’ usability and surface quality. Together with Spicer and the Grand Forks Parks and Recreation Foundation, they have initiated the fundraising campaign, which has already collected $700. The estimated cost for renovating the four tennis courts at the complex is $60,000.

“The sky’s the limit,” according to Nielsen. “We aim to not only improve the court’s functionality but also enhance the viewing experience and aesthetic appeal.”
